Hello.  Thank you for signing up for the Scoutmaster Specific training either by itself or as part of the Scouts BSA New Leader Training, also known as TAKACHSIN.

Our classroom training session, covering the Scoutmaster Specific syllabus, will start promptly at 8am on Saturday, March 15th. Please give yourself enough time to park your car, make it to Camp Workcoeman’s dining hall, and check-in prior to the start time. Being a bit early will also give you some time to meet the other participants assigned to your patrol.

For those continuing on to the Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) training in May, note there are two Zoom meetings scheduled between the in-person courses - the Interims. These meetings will occur April 1st and 15th, starting at 7pm. These meetings will be part course instruction and part patrol planning meeting for the IOLS weekend, held May 2nd through the 4th.

On this page you will find website links demonstrating the seven knots and hitches a Scout will need taught and be able to successfully tie as they progress through the first several ranks of the Scouting program. Please work through all the knots and hitches prior to the day of our courses. The hallmark of a good knot/hitch is that it 1) is easy to tie, 2) does what it is intended to do, and 3) is easy to untie. With a little practice you will find all the knots and hitches here meet these criteria. While there, you should also check out some of the other articles listed on ScoutLife.org, one of many valuable, online resources for both Scouts and Scouters that exist.

We look forward to meeting you.
