TAKACHSIN 54
A COURSE FOR NEW (OR SOON TO BE NEW) SCOUTS BSA TROOP LEADERS
-
TAKACHSIN is a word from the Lenni Lenape people, also known as the Delaware nation. It translates to LEADER in English.
-
Our course allows you to obtain the required trainings you need as a new adult Scouts BSA Troop leader while experiencing what it is like to be a new Scout in a Troop. You will get the opportunity to live the patrol method with other new leaders in an adults only Troop created for this course.
-
Baden Powell, the founder of the Scouting movement, said the patrol method is not one way in which Scouting should be run, it is the ONLY way. A patrol is the basic unit of a well-run Troop. It is a small group that is youth run, maintains its own identity, and works as a team to accomplish tasks and goals. The patrol method is the implementation and management of this important Scouting concept.
-
Although the required courses are designed with new Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters in mind, the courses offered would be ideal for any adult, new to a Troop, who wants to work with the youth. The only requirements to participate in any of our courses are 1) having an active membership in Scouting America and 2) being current with your Youth Protection Training.
-
No, but you will get the best experience by completing the whole NEW SCOUTS BSA TROOP LEADER TRAINING course. Both courses can be taken independently and are worthy on their own, but the patrol method, used from beginning to end in the full course, offers the participant a deeper experience of what it feels like to be a new Scout in a Troop. If you can’t do both, we’ll still provide you with the best experience possible in either course you can take.
-
This required course introduces new adult leaders to Troop organization, planning, and meeting execution plus more. This course can be taken alone, but it is recommended to take the NEW SCOUTS BSA TROOP LEADER TRAINING to get the most out of the experience.
-
This required course builds on the Scoutmaster Specific training introducing new leaders to outdoor skills and helping provide the confidence to take youth on outdoor adventures. This course can be taken alone, but it is recommended to take the NEW SCOUTS BSA LEADER TRAINING to get the most out of the experience.
